Born in Ames, IA in 1862, William Ashley Sunday was an American outfielder in baseball's National League. In 1891 he gave up baseball to become a YMCA worker and began conducting religious revivals in 1896. He was ordained a Presbyterian minister in 1903 and was widely considered the most influential American evangelist during the first two decades of the 20th century.
