Join our community Iowa LEAP Coalition, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach and local community partners for a Walk Audit on September 10 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
A Walk Audit is an extremely versatile tool for walkable and rollable community advocates. This public engagement activity will build awareness of the importance of walkable and rollable design, identify specific pedestrian safety issues, and advance policy and community development goals. A Walk Audit is often the first step towards policy, system, and environment change which can improve a community for people of all ages.
Through a community-wide survey, an area of concern for walkability and rollability in Council Bluffs around the First Ave Trail and Bayliss Park was identified. The Walk Audit will be concentrating on this route.
The Walk Audit will focus several routes in the area between Bayliss Park and the First Ave. Trail.
- Walk Audit Participants will meet at 1 p.m. at the local Iowa State University Extension and Outreach office at 126 East Broadway in Council Bluffs.
- There will be a short presentation on how to conduct an audit, what to be looking for, how to document our findings, get into walk audit groups, and hand out all necessary materials needed to conduct a walk audit.
- After completing the walk audit, participants will come back together as a group at the Council Bluffs Public Library at 400 Willow Ave for a short debrief.
Please RSVP to Geré Stevens at gere@iastate.edu or by calling 712-366-7070.
