Discovery Pass Ticket System

The current online ticket system for Discovery Passes is ending on December 31st, 2024. We are working on implementing a new system currently, but it will not be ready for use for a few weeks. Passes will not be available to reserve for dates past December 31 until our new system is in place. 2024-2025 Council Bluffs Public Library Speaker Series

We are excited to announce the authors for the 2024-2025 Council Bluffs Public Library Speaker Series - Alexander McCall Smith, Ed Yong and Nita Prose! Read on to learn about each of these incredible authors!

The Speaker Series starts on Thursday, October 17, at 7 p.m. with Alexander McCall Smith, author of the beloved internationally acclaimed bestselling series No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency. The 25th book in the series, The Great Hippopotamus Hotel, will be published on October 15 - just two days before his talk! McCall Smith is a prolific and beloved writer who has written and contributed to over 100 books, including academic titles, short story collections, and many immensely popular children’s books. The Series will continue in December with Ed Yong on Thursday, December 12 at 7 p.m. Ed Yong is a British-American science journalist, a Pulitzer winner, and the author of two bestselling books, An Immense World, about the extraordinary sensory worlds of other animals; and I Contain Multitudes, about the amazing partnerships between animals and microbes. At our December 12 event, Mr. Yong will take our audiences through the hidden realms of animal senses. With wit and humor, we’ll learn the amazing ways in which animals perceive aspects of the world to which we are oblivious. The Series will conclude in January with Nita Prose on Thursday, January 9, 2025 at 7 p.m. Nita Prose is the author of the international bestseller The Mystery Guest and The Maid,  A #1 New York Times bestseller and a Good Morning America Bookclub pick, The Maid won the Ned Kelly Award for International Crime Fiction, the Fingerprint Award for Debut Novel of the Year, the Anthony Award for Best First Novel, and the Barry Award for Best First Mystery. All Speaker Series events will occur at the Arts Center at Iowa Western Community College. Each lecture will include an author talk and a book signing, with books available for purchase by the Bookworm. Tickets are $10 per speaker with a small convenience fee at the box office and are available for sale at the Arts Center @IWCC Website.
