A name has been chosen for our new Automated Materials Handler. As decided by the public, our employee's name is AMH-y The Sortceror.
To give an explanation, the AMH is an abbreviated version of the full name of the machine, Automated Materials Handler, with a "y" at the end to make it sound like the name "Amy". She's a wiz at sorting and checking in items as they're returned through our drive-through book return. With that being said we've dubbed AMH-y our sorcerer of material sorting, or the "Sortceror".
During the week of February 12, 2024, the tear down began by recycling the old sorting machine and clearing out the space for the new machine. This section of floor hasn't been seen in over 10 years! After 3 days of busy work we were able to test the book return by running materials through. You can view some photos of this transition on our facebook page! During the first few months we worked with technicians to make sure she was properly running. With AMH-y fully installed and working, we are ready to introduce her to the community. Look forward to some future promotion featuring how AMH-y The Sortceror works and what library materials experience as they're returned through our drive-through.
The installation of a new and updated outdoor book return has been provided by the Council Bluffs Public Library Foundation and the City of Council Bluffs - Municipal Government. We appreciate their support in bringing continued 24/7 access to this service for the Council Bluffs community!
