Tax Appointments

The Omaha Earned Income Tax Credit Coalition provides free tax preparation through the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program which certifies all volunteers in tax law and tax preparation.

The Council Bluffs Public Library will serve as an appointment site on Mondays and Wednesdays, beginning January 29th – April 3rd.  This service is not provided by the Council Bluffs Public Library and is BY APPOINTMENT ONLY.

• ​​You may only schedule appointments online to file tax returns for tax years 2020-2023. Scheduling an appointment for any other service may result in you not being assisted. We are not able to assist with nonresident returns.  If you need to file a return for an earlier year, or any other service, you will need to leave a detailed message at our office at 402-934-6750. Please do not call to schedule a regular appointment.
• The taxpayer, and spouse if filing together, must attend the appointment.  Please no children, other relatives, or friends. 
• You will need to provide photo IDs for the taxpayer and spouse, and social security cards (or ITINs) for everyone on the return.  Please ensure you have all needed documents for all years you are filing, including W2s, retirement distributions, unemployment, gambling winnings, and 1095As for Marketplace insurance. 
• You will participate in an interview and review of your tax forms, the typing of your return, and review of the completed return before signing.  
• Completing the Intake Sheet prior to the appointment, the Schedule C Readiness Form for self-employment or contract work, and the Schedule E Readiness Form for rental property owners is helpful.  Forms may be downloaded here.  Please print the completed forms and bring them to your appointment. If you can't print the forms, you will be provided the forms to complete at your appointment. 
• Providing a cell phone number and a valid email address will ensure you receive appointment reminders.
