Jeremiah Folsom was born in New Hampshire in 1817. As a young man he moved to Michigan and in 1840 married Marcia A Hopkins. While in Michigan they had two children, Marcia and Edward. Jeremiah was listed as a glass manufacturer in the 1850 federal census.
Horace Everett was born in 1819 to a prominent American family in Windsor, Vermont. He came from a long line of lawyers and educators. Horace attended school in New Hampshire and Vermont and after studying law under the guidance of his father, he passed the bar.
Paul Coleman DeVol is the son of last month's profile, David and Delia DeVol. P.C. DeVol was born in 1836 in New York state. He came to Council Bluffs in 1847 with his parents. He went to school until he was 18 when he started to learn the tinners trade. In 1861 P.C.
David DeVol was born in Chatham, NY in 1805. Delia Toby was born in Canaan, NY in 1812. They were married in 1830 and eventually had 10 children, only 5 of their children lived to adulthood.
Reverend Henry DeLong is a well known figure in Council Bluffs history. He was born September 7, 1834 in Pennsylvania. In 1844 his family traveled west with the Mormons, but unfortunately both of Henry's parents died in 1845, leaving him an orphan at the age of 11.
John Clausen was born in Germany in 1832. He came to America when he was 21 years old and worked in New York City for a few years before coming to Council Bluffs in 1856.
Mr. and Mrs. Daniel B. Clark were both born in New York state. Daniel Clark was born in January of 1819 and Eleanor Bates Clark was born in December of that same year.
Laban and Betsey Childs arrived in Council Bluffs in 1856 from Vermont. Laban was a tavern keeper in Wilmington, Vermont and built the first hotel there. He and Betsey were married in August of 1837.
Jefferson P. Casady was born September 1, 1828 in Connersville, Ohio. After an early life of farming he decided to study law. In 1852 he was in Des Moines, Iowa and was admitted to the bar. The next year he was in Council Bluffs practicing law.
George Canning was born in 1818 in Berkshire, England. Mary A. Westall was also born in England around 1823. In 1840 George and Mary were married and in 1849 they immigrated to Council Bluffs. They lived in Council Bluffs for the rest of their lives.
